Senator Sarauw begins the people’s work

With a truncated term, Senator Sarauw hits the ground running.

St. Thomas, The 32nd Legislature welcomed Senator Janelle K. Sarauw and her staff last week. She is thankful for all the love and support as she begins her work. The Central Staff and members of the 32nd Legislature, who have been professional, helpful, and friendly, made the introduction to the building seamless which has allowed Senator Sarauw and her team the ability to get right to work with little hindrance.

“Myself and the team have been welcomed so graciously by the staff here at the 32nd Legislature. With their help, we have been able to settle into the office and our duties. The onboarding process is no small task, and I am so appreciative of the knowledge and experience of the people I am graced to work with here.”

With the week’s agenda in hand, Senator Sarauw began reviewing testimony in preparation for committee hearings. Although not yet assigned her respective committees, the Senator participated in session as a non-member of the Health, Hospital and Human Services Committee, Chaired by Senator Nereida Rivera-O’Reilly. Senator Sarauw also attended the Cruise Task Force Town Hall, where cruise experts gave a sobering talk on the need for the USVI to update and diversify their offerings to cruise ship travelers. The Senator is already hard at work crafting legislation to foster economic prosperity and the diversification of the downtown district.

Finally, Senator Sarauw will spend most of this week reviewing the 2018 budget along with testimonies, in preparation for upcoming Finance Committee Meetings. Given the financial situation of the territory, and the fact that the fiscal year begins October 1, 2017, Senator Sarauw recognizes the urgency in addressing our economic situation whilst maintaining an efficient and effective government.
